Discrimination Training Programme: Creating a Culture of Change Across Gloucester
This programme is designed to transform how agencies and organisations working with young people across the city approach discrimination. By aligning on actively anti-discriminatory practices, this programme develops a unified approach, ensuring inclusivity and safety in youth spaces across the city. The training has been applied and adapted to different contexts, including The Gloucester Fire department's SkillZONE and tailored training in Gloucester Bar Park for young people and facilitators. We have partnered with Lewis Wedlock, social psychologist and mental health activist to develop a programme tailored to Gloucester.
”I thoroughly enjoyed partnering with Chispa to deliver community focused workshops relating to masculinity, public safety and community cohesion. I think that the work that Chispa is doing is vital not only to the landscape of Gloucester; their work is a wonderful template for community organisations across the UK to follow. They blend the intersections of identity, wellness and fitness in a way that very few are doing elsewhere. It was an honour to work with them.” - Lewis Wedlock
WORKSHOPS DELIVERED TO DATE:
HOLD THE SPACE WORKSHOP (Gloucester Bar Park - March 2025)
Creating safer spaces through conversation, awareness and action. This informal conversation based workshop for 16-35yr olds explored how we can make outdoor spaces safe, more inclusive and welcoming for everyone, using real life scenarios themes such as gender dynamics, respect and the power of bystander action were discussed and looking at how to step in, not just stand by.
Through this session participants listened, shared and reimagined what respect looks like in public spaces
ANTI-MISOGYNY AND RADICALISATION TRAINING DELIVERED BY LEWIS WEDLOCK (SkillZONE, Gloucester - Sept 2024)
This interactive session explored how masculinities are radicalised into "alpha" or "red pill" frameworks, examining the causes and conditions, how we can engage young men using reflective tools and compassionate questioning to broaden their understanding of masculinity and processes that support individuals in rediscovering positive aspects of their masculinity.
Through this workshop, participants explored structural dynamics and learned practical communication techniques to implement in their work with young men. This marks the beginning of a commitment to creating safe, uplifting, and supportive spaces that develop real attitudinal change.
